I suppose, in a way, Tony Blair is emminently qualified for this post. He's never really been a democrat, and this is far from being a democratic appointment.
Putting to one side the appauling set of circumstances that led to the creation of this post, if it is to exist, surely it should be decided by direct election. In an age when The West is seekin to export it's warped idea of democracy to the rest of the world, the EU stands out as a beacon of undemocratic bureaucracy rivalling the old Soviet Union.
And, if the post was to be decided by election, among the list of people who should be barred from candidacy would be one Tony Blair. Only his good friend and advocate Silvio Berlusconi has more question marks over his record than Blair.
As for the post of EU Foreign Minister, I would be happy to see David Miliband in that position so long as he never returned to UK politics.
